Last year the federal government did not reauthorize the State Children’s Health Insurance Program. Despite this, Washington remains poised to cover all children by 2010. Click here to see how SCHIP and other CHNW 2007 policy priorities fared.

Federal Policy and Advocacy

The Community Health Network of Washington (CHNW) employs a strategic public policy and advocacy strategy in Washington, D.C. to promote public policies to increase access to health insurance and health care and reduce the number of uninsured people in our state. Below you’ll find our federal priorities for 2008.

2008 Federal Policy Priorities for the 110th Congress

We are urging the 110th Congress to take the following priority actions, as outlined in our overview of federal policy priorities:
  • Block CMS' August 17th SCHIP directive, reauthorize the State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) and permanently fix Washington's funding inequity.
  • Eliminate the Medicaid citizenship documentation requirement.
  • Delay new Medicaid regulations that would cost Washington State over $90 million per year.
  • Ensure adequate payments to Medicare Advantage plans and reauthorize Special Needs Plan programs.
  • Ensure that safety net health plans and community health centers remain part of the health care reform solution.
We also support the 2008 federal agenda of the National Association of Community Health Centers. Click here to see their agenda.
